JED provides after school care to nearly 1/3 of the Janney student population.  Kids from Pre-K to 6th grade enjoy the supervised playground time, arts & crafts and traditional Thursday bingo games.  Parents enjoy the supervised homework time.  All of this is overseen by Glen Sitney who has been running the ever-growing program for nine years.  Following is a description of what you can expect on a typical day at JED.

Daily Schedule

JED operates an afternoon program on days that Janney School is in session. Program hours are:

Regular School Days

Pre-Scheduled Staff Development Day

Afternoon Program

3:15pm to 6:00 PM

7:30am to 6:00 PM

Late Stay Option

6:00pm to 6:30 PM

6:30 PM

   

Each day at dismissal time JED kids check themselves in at the Janney auditorium.  JED splits its time between Janney Elementary and Iona House, directly across the street from the school.  After check in, we divide the children by grade; some will stay at Janney while the rest will go to Iona until 5pm.  After 5:00 all of the children will be at Janney for evening pick up. 

IONA Schedule:

Pre–K  - 1st:  Monday & Tuesday   
2nd - 3rd: Wednesday              
4th – 6th:   Thursday & Friday     

Daily Schedule and Activites:

3:15 – 3:30 pm             

Status Check:  Gathering children checking them into the program.  Snack provided during check in.

3:30  

Gather children to go to Iona

3:30 – 5:15 pm              

Homework:  tutorial assistance, reading, study links etc. (at Janney or Iona).
Learning Center:  story time, sharing/show and tell (younger kids)
Group Activity:  arts & crafts project for the younger kids and those who don’t have homework.  Outdoor activities: free play, playground activities:  kickball, football, basketball, wall ball, capture the flag, sidewalk chalk etc.

4:40 – 5:30 pm           

Group Activity:  arts & crafts project for those who don’t have homework.  After homework is complete, those students may do the group activity. 

5:00          

Students return from Iona. 

5:30 – 6:00 pm           

Game Time:  free play, games, independent activities, puzzles etc.

5:45 – 6:00 pm           

Clean-up, continued free play and preparation to go home. 

6:00 – 6:30 pm           

Extended Stay:  continue free play.

6:30 – CLOSED

Dismissal

All of the students will be picked up at Janney in the auditorium daily.  Please remember to sign out!

Snack

JED serves a snack every day immediately following check in.  No peanut products are served.

Bingo

Bingo is a JED tradition and one of the most popular activities offered.  It happens on Thursdays at 5pm – check with your kids to make sure you don’t make the mistake of trying to pick them up early that day!

Parties

JED loves to celebrate and throw a good party. You will get notices about the famous JED Halloween party, Holiday party and the end of year bash that usually involves moonbounces, burgers and snow cones.  JED also produces an annual talent and fashion show to showcase our kids’ unique abilities and fantastic accessorizing.
